The artwork is titled "The Weight of Butterflies," inspired by the Chinese translation of poet Neruda's poetry collection. When I completed this painting, the imagery of this phrase immediately came to mind.
The original poem metaphorically associates butterflies with life and death. In this painting, the central theme is transformation, with the curled body symbolizing the various hardships faced during the growth process. While the environment may force the body to curl, does one's will also shrink in the process? The cost of transformation is significant, yet throughout this process, even in the face of various constraints, the one thing that cannot be taken away is the inner freedom of the human spirit.
The so-called "weight of butterflies" here metaphorically signifies the weight of transformation, with its ultimate meaning pointing towards happiness and freedom!
